Germany has been officially declared a racist country. All hypocritical efforts of German Neo-Nazis in disguise to camouflage all forms of their racist acts and deny their existence have failed. In the country where Adolf Hitler’s Nazi regime initiated, planned, and executed the Holocaust, Neo-Nazis are celebrating a revival. It is incorrect to label every German a Neo-Nazi, but the result of the German federal election on 23. February 2025 indicates millions of Germans are Neo-Nazis. 82.5% of the 59 million eligible voters voted. The far-right populist Party, Assholes for Disaster, in German, Arschlöcher für Desaster (AfD), won 20.8% of the vote to claim second place and become the largest opposition party.
Over the years, German officials downgraded and downplayed racist attacks as actions of a few frustrated Germans and the increase in Neo-Nazi party membership as a protest reaction against mainstream politics. Despite reports of racial attacks against migrants and people of color, in particular, Blacks, who experience daily in public places and at work, there is no judicial effort in progress to curtail racism. The government handles the existence of Neo-Nazi groups in law enforcement organizations, including the police and the military, with inconsequential reform promises.
Government officials now face the reality: Neo-Nazis have infiltrated mainstream politics and are celebrating a renaissance. They have gained political power and can no longer be discarded as irrelevant. Neo-Nazis are present in all areas of government and private institutions and organizations. Being aware of their popularity, these nefarious bastards utter their racial rants publicly without remorse. The discriminatory attitude of the police against Blacks and people they perceive as migrants, whether they are born in Germany or not, is a testimony to the precarious situation of marginalized people in Germany. Identity control in Germany is legitimate, but the police control Black people multiple times more, with suspicion of a criminal offense and with unwarranted brutality.
Racism was the fundamental cause of the death of two Black Africans. Jalloh died in police custody in 2005. Adriano was killed by a Neo-Nazi in 2000. A killing happened again in the German city of Oldenburg on 20 April 2025. A 21-year-old Black man, Lorenz A., was killed by a German police officer, who shot him several times in the back. The investigation is ongoing at the time of this writing. According to an unverified account of the incident, Lorenz sprayed irritant gas on people at the front of a discotheque that denied him entry. The people pursued him as he fled, but gave up when he threatened them with a knife. The police took over the pursuit until Lorenz stopped and sprayed irritant gas on the police. The police decided to shoot him. Lorenz died later in the hospital. The autopsy revealed that the police shot him many times in the back. He must have been running for his life and not facing the police.
He was not a threat! May His Soul Rest in Peace! As we reflect on this tragedy, let it serve as a stark reminder of the dangers concealed in all shades of racism. Every voice matters in the fight against racism and inequality. Let us honor the memory of those lost by striving for a world where justice and equality are not ideals but realities for everyone.
